I greatly enjoy viewing, discussing, and reading about the world of foreign cinema. Some of my favorite films include: The Spirit of the Beehive, Z, My Night at Maud’s, Ju Dou, L’Atalante, Diary of a Country Priest, La Strada, Au Revoir Les Enfants, Wages of Fear, and The Seventh Seal. This is just a short list of the many foreign films that I have come to adore. The directors behind the lens that have intrigued and stimulated my imagination and psyche are Eric Rhomer, Ingmar Bergman, Luis Buñuel, Yimou Zhang, Jean Renoir, Jean-Luc Godard, Francois Truffaut, Robert Bresson, Andrzej Wajda, Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti, Vittorio de Sica, and Pier Paolo Pasolini. Unfortunately, I have found that many Americans either do not wish or care to watch foreign films. Perhaps by reading these blog reflections, some people will embark on a journey and discover the beauty of Italian Neo-Realism or French New Wave Cinema. You may even become a cinephile!
I am a graduate student in a public history program at Wright State University. After I graduate from this two year program I hope to acquire a position in the curatorial or archival field.
Outside of completing my work in the classroom and my work as a graduate assistant, I enjoy reading, hiking in the woods, visiting museums, listening to music, volunteering for the Catholic Hispanic Ministry, and of course watching foreign films. I also happen to enjoy American films but mostly they are either independent films (Paris Texas, Mean Streets, Drugstore Cowboy), 1970s American New Wave films (Marathon Man, The French Connection, Serpico), Woody Allen films, or documentaries (Roger & Me, Streetwise).
